Frequently Asked Questions
We started our farm to grow nature’s highest quality and best-tasting blueberries. The more we learned about biological and organic farming, the more we desired to share our knowledge with the general public so everyone can make informed decisions about the produce they eat. Farming Practices
-
YES! We received our official organic certification in July of 2024. However, our blueberries are even more nutritious than traditional organic berries because of our biological farming practices that prioritize chemical-free soil health.
-
Latitude 43 farms biologically, which is a method that focuses on soil health and plant microbiology without any chemicals or sprays. As a result, food is produced organically – in fact, it produces an even higher quality of food than organic produce, which is more of a certification and classification than a guarantee of chemical-free, nutrient-dense food.
The farming practices used at Latitude 43 are basically archaic compared to modern practices. You’ll often hear Chris and Cole joke that they’re farming in the 1930s while the other guys out there are living in the future.
Our farm grows two late-season blueberry varietals called Ochlockonee and Overtime. These berries are known for their sweetness and bold flavor.
-
We focus on soil health by applying compost, mulch, minerals, kelp, fish, and beneficial bacteria. The goal is to nurture the microbes in our soil that feed our plants. This makes the nutrients more available for our blueberry bushes. We believe this the key to healthy, flavorful, and nutrient-dense fruit. The method of farming also ensures healthy, long-lasting, bushes that are naturally resistant to disease and pests.

Check out the picture in our online store to get a visual idea of what 10 pounds looks like. It sounds like a lot, but every person who split a 10-pound box in last year’s harvest reached out asking to buy more berries. Don’t miss your opportunity to get ‘em while they’re in season.

To maintain freshness, store your berries uncovered in the refrigerator. You can add a paper towel to your container to absorb moisture. If you’d like to wash your berries, only do so right before eating - wet blueberries will soften quickly. If you do not expect to eat your berries within 7 days of your pickup, we recommend freezing them in Ziplock bags. Do not wash your berries before freezing.
