Proper Care and Handling of Blueberries
Our berries last longer than the ones you buy at the grocery store because of our intentional picking and handling processes. Blueberries naturally have a white-ish protective layer on them called “bloom.” This bloom keeps your berries fresh. Minimal handling is the key to maintaining bloom and blueberry freshness!
Refrigerator Storage
As long as you keep your berries dry, they will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 1.5-2.5 weeks from pickup. Store your berries uncovered in the refrigerator. You can add a paper towel to your container to absorb moisture.
If you’d like to wash your berries, only do so right before eating - wet blueberries will soften quickly. We do not spray our berries with any pesticides, herbicides, or harmful products, so there is no need to wash them. We eat our berries straight off the bush!
Freezer Storage
Our berries freeze GREAT and can last throughout the whole year. If you have the space, you can leave your berries in the box. They’ll freeze individually and won’t clump together. If freezer space is an issue, we recommend freezing blueberries in Ziplock bags or vacuum-seal bags. If you vacuum seal your berries, freeze them on a cookie sheet before vacuum sealing.
To defrost your berries, spread them in a single layer on a plate and let them sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before eating.
Do not wash your berries before freezing.
